Well Hello There…
Phew what a spring. I feel like just yesterday we were shoveling snow off the driveway and today we are smelling the spring blooms. There is so much truth to the saying “time flies”
Anyway. I have been doing a bit of sewing and have a couple of items to show for it, but for today I want to talk about a skirt. More years ago than I care to remember I made a simple skirt. It was simple in design gathered at the waistband, cotton jersey printed with a really pretty blue floral. I loved that skirt and wore it practically until it fell apart. Recently I decided I wanted to recreate the feel of this skirt. I used Mccalls 6706. because I really don’t need all the fullness a gathered waist provides, but wanted fullness throughout the skirt. Next I pulled a knit from my stash. Now this is not the blue of my old skirt but I love the pinks almost as well. I don’t recall where I purchased this fabric, I wish I did so I could give credit. It is lovely, buttery soft and drapes like a dream, these qualities also made for a struggle while trying to get the fabric to submit to my whims and the pattern directions.
Using my normal size I went about creating this lovely. I basted the pleats and side seams basted on the waistband, tried it on ,,, and it slid off. UGH. So it sat on the table in my studio for a few days until inspiration struck. I took in the side seams and created a shaped waist band. Now this waistband is not pretty or elegant on the inside, but I managed to smooth out the public side to some degree of satisfaction. I have since located some tutorials about creating shaped waistbands that I will use in the future, they make so much sense.
I was only able to grab a quick cell phone photo, thanks to a really great co worker!
Well it is a sort of awkward pose 🙂
Until next time…
